Read about the adult industries most notable interviewer. He truly LOVES the adult industry a.k.a. PORN and the girls responsible for bringing the best scenes out there! Meet the “trained porn eye”, Jack:
You are a reviewer for adultdvdtalk.com. How did you get your start?
I was browsing the fan forums one day and saw a topic “Reviewers Wanted”. It said to submit a review and if it was good, they’d let me do more. It didn’t pay but you did get free porn. I thought, “Hell, I always wanted to be a writer. I love porn. Why not?” I submitted a review and 7 years later, here we are!
How do you decide what to review?
ADT has a list of DVD’s that the reviewers can pick from. Studios send in their screeners and we choose from that. A couple years into that, I asked if I can contact studios directly and they told me to go for it. By that time, I was garnering a name for reviewing so people knew who I was. Now, I get boxes of porn sent to me each month. I get releases from Elegant Angel, Evil Angel, Girlfriends Films, Mile High, Kelly Madison Productions, New Sensations….
How did you start doing interviews?
I was working with Fine Ass Marketing and one of their clients was Tasha Reign. They sent me a couple of her releases with a note thanking me for doing the reviews and asking if I needed her for anything, including an interview, to just let them know. I thought, “Interviews? Really? I can talk to a porn star?” I asked Steph, the webmaster from ADT, about it and she said if I wanted to do interviews to go ahead. I thought about it for a while and only wanted to do it if I could do something unique. I didn’t want to ask the standard questions, I really wanted to get to know these girls. I also knew I had to keep it sexy to keep the fans engaged. I crafted some questions and set up a time to talk to Tasha. The whole process took me about 3 or 4 weeks. When I interviewed Tasha, I was brutal. I was so nervous and stuttered and stammered. She was so sweet and was patient with me. 26 months later, I have no problems asking a girl anything, even in person, lol.
Do you have any favorite girls that you’ve talked to?
I have a whole slew of them, lol. Some girls are just so cool whereas others are just like robots and there’s no personal chemistry. Some of my favorites are Veruca James, Anikka Albrite, Romi Rain, Maddy O’Reilly, Jodi Taylor, AJ Applegate, Candice Dare, Bonnie Rotten, Mia Austin, Carter Cruise, Alana Luv, Kate England, yourself….there’s so many out there! I’ve loved talking to most of them, actually. I’ve watched porn for a long, long time. It’s still amazing to me that I can contact a girl and get her number with no issues. If I ever become jaded about it, I’ll know it’s time to stop doing it.
Do you ever meet these girls in person?
Actually, yes. In 2013, Exxxotica in Chicago was the first porn show I ever attended. Bonnie Rotten was starting to blow up at that time. I tentatively approached her booth and asked if she read her reviews and flashed my badge at her. She exclaimed, “I read you all the time! I love you! You’re so awesome!” and then she gave me a big hug and a kiss. I thought right then, “Damn, people actually read me!” We talked for a bit and she was selling DVD’s and she gave me one that I hadn’t seen yet. The following January, I went to the AVN Expo for the first time. I felt like a star, meeting all these girls. They were genuinely happy to meet me. Veruca James and myself had been texting and emailing since we did an interview. I had never met her before and I finally got the chance while she was setting up. I hugged her and picked her up. That was a thrill because I had a personal relationship with her already.
Probably my greatest thrill happened at the last AVN. I was at the Awards and I knew most of the winners. I texted some girls congratulations if I didn’t see them in person after the show. Carter had just won Best New Starlet and I was looking for her. I guess she went upstairs to change out of her gown so she wasn’t around. I looked around the casino bar and was just about to take off when I saw here sitting in a restaurant. I ran up to her and she gave me a HUGE hug and was crying in my arms. She was so happy and thanked me. She thanked me! On the biggest night of her career! That made it all worthwhile right there!
I was recently in Los Angeles, I had coffee with Romi Rain, had dinner with Sarah Vandella and Lolly Ink, met Aiden Starr, had another dinner with Veruca and Kimberly Kane. I was also on a New Sensations set with a couple of 18 year olds, Elsa Jean and Jojo Kiss. And I also texted a bunch of other girls that were out of town or were busy otherwise I would have met them too. At the most recent Exxxotica in Chicago, I talked with Tori Black for about 15 minutes. I was with a friend and remarked to him that I jerked off to her so many times in my life and now we’re talking like we’re old friends! Oh, in LA, Anikka was out of town but I did go to a movie with her mother.
Her mother? How did that come about?
I first talked to Anikka back in the summer of 2013. During our interview, she mentioned some things about her mother. I made the remark that I wanted to party with her. I meant that, I wanted to meet her. At the 2014 AVN’s, her mother didn’t make it but her sister did so I met her sister. I interviewed Anikka again later that year and she told me her mom was coming to the 2015 show. We kept missing each other but, finally, on Saturday, Anikka texted me and told me that her mother was at her booth that I should come right over. We hugged and talked for about 90 minutes like we were old friends. When I told Anikka I was coming out to LA, she and Mick Blue wanted to take me out to dinner but her dance schedule precluded that. I was at the Evil Angel offices that week and someone remarked that Anikka’s mom was there the day before. I put something on Twitter, Anikka gave her mother my number and she texted me. We had a good time.
After knowing all these girls and hanging out with them, how do you keep your objectivity in your reviews?
That isn’t too difficult. I tell anyone that sends me content that I’ll be honest in my reviews. Just because someone sends me something doesn’t mean I’m going to lavish praise on them. I think people respect that. In fact, I’ve had some directors, like Mimefreak or Mark Wood, tell me to be more critical of them. Tell them what they’re doing wrong so that they can improve. In fact, I received Maddy O’Reilly Is Slutwoman from Elegant Angel last year. I read some other reviews and everyone lavished praise on it. I thought long and hard about it. It was good but there were some things that were lacking in it. I put that in my review and both Maddy and Mimefreak went out of their way to thank me. They said I was the most honest review they read. I appreciated that. I know of one director that gets pissed if I don’t give him good marks all the way around. But I can’t give good reviews just because someone requests them. Some people criticize reviewers, not just myself, because most everything is given 3 ½ or 4 stars. Well, we only review DVDs that we’re interested in. We already have an interest in something so that’s the start towards a good review.
